Intended for young and adult students of level B2/C1 Portuguese, this book is composed of 21 narrative texts by contemporary Portuguese-speaking authors, annotated to assist reading. It includes exercises for students to practise more complex aspects of syntax and apply vocabulary. Ideal for self-study (with keys at the end of the book) or for use in advanced level classes (conversation and writing topics are suggested for each text). Short stories written by Pepetela, Bernardo Carvalho, Adília Lopes, Altino do Tojal, José Eduardo Agualusa, Joana Bértholo, Marcelino Freire and Renata Py among others.

Formado em línguas e literaturas modernas, tem mestrado em literatura comparada e doutoramento em estudos portugueses. Ensinou PLE em Lisboa, exerceu funções em universidades e centros culturais de França e foi leitor de português do então Instituto Camões em Bruxelas e Lovaina. Publicou vários artigos e o livro O trágico em Graciliano Ramos e Carlos de Oliveira (Coimbra: Angelus Novus, 2008). Atualmente trabalha nas áreas da biblioteconomia e da mediação cultural em Paris.
